The story

Read the story of Talo Rannalla, and you'll know where it all began.

It all began in 1918

Villa Wegelius was completed in 1918 as the main building of the Wegelius family's estate. The house was designed by architect Bertel Strömmer. Over the course of more than a hundred years, the house has had hundreds of employees and tens of thousands of visitors, as it served as the house of Ti-Ti Nalle from 2000 to 2017 and prior to that as the office building of the spa.

New phase

In April 2021, with the purchase, the house transferred into our family's ownership, and in January 2023, it became my company under the name Talo Rannalla (meaning house by shore)

Coming up with the name wasn't easy, but one morning I said to my husband, 'Isn't our place just a house located by the shore?' He had been thinking the same thing, so Talo Rannalla Oy was born.

It wasn't as easy to perceive myself as an entrepreneur after all those years as a teacher. After all, I had introduced myself almost like a mantra for over 15 years as a mother of four, a primary school teacher, and the spouse of an entrepreneur with a miniature poodle, now already two dogs. But when one is given the opportunity to do and learn new things, it must be seized.

Renovation

The guiding principle regarding renovation over these two years has been to do as much as possible ourselves. By doing so, we have become familiar with Talo Rannalla, and seeing the mark of our own hands also brings a lot of joy. In teaching, it's a virtue to endure the unfinished, and the same applies to this almost 1000-square-metre Talo Rannalla renovation. We do what we can, and someone else will continue.

Another important thing for me is nature and environmentally sustainable values and choices. I want to offer customers a beautiful environment indoors and outdoors, but in a way that natural resources are not used unnecessarily. I have wanted to consider this in the decoration of Talo Rannalla, in dishes, textiles, and even in the construction of the kitchen and lakeside sauna.

The log lakeside sauna has been moved from the shore of the Oulu River to the shore of Lake Kyrösjärvi intact. All of this has been made possible by items acquired from relatives, friends, and strangers, as well as by purchasing items for very little money, and by acquiring items from recycling centres.

Now, after two years, as I walk through Talo Rannalla, I warmly remember all of these people. There's a good spirit in Talo Rannalla, knowing that those items were put to use again, given a new opportunity.

We welcome you all to Talo Rannalla to enjoy life and good moments!
